ORGNIZED WORKSHOP ON ‘COMMERCIAL POULTRY FARMING’ FOR WOMEN AT PGIVAS AKOLA UNDER RKVY PROJECT.

The department of poultry science, PGIVAS, Akola have successfully organized workshop on ‘COMMERCIAL POULTRY FARMING’ for women at RKVY Poultry Training and Demonstration Center on 17th March 2017. The said event was observed in view of the celebration of the International Women’s Day i.e. 8th March. The workshop was inaugurated at the hands of Smt. Vidya Pawar, Comptroller, Dr.P.D.K.V., Akola in the august presence of Smt. Anjalitai Tapre, poultry entrepreneur, NCDC, Buldhana, and Smt. Namrata Babhulkar, Assistant Commissioner of A.H., Akola under the Chairmanship of Dr. H.S. Birade, Associate Dean, PGIVAS, Akola. A successful women poultry entrepreneur Smt. Vanita Khurape from Karanja Lad, Dist. Washim was praised for her success by the dignitaries.
 
During the inaugural speech Dr. S.J. Manwar, Principal Investigator, RKVY Project and Head, Dept. of Poultry Science welcomed the guests and gathering and narrated the importance of organizing the workshop for women on such auspicious occasion. He also narrated the importance of poultry farming for women empowerment and guided women participants on requisites to start poultry farming. Smt. Anjalitai Tapre shared her experience of rearing 30000 layers single handedly and guided women farmers to take up poultry farming activity. A successful poultry entrepreneur from Yavatmal Shri Devendra Bhoyar also interacted with the participant women. He shared his experience of starting with a small flock of 300 birds and how he could set up an ultra modern commercial farm of a capacity of about 3 lakh broilers today. He emphasized the importance of broiler farming and rearing practices for successful farming of broilers on large scale.
 
In her speech Dr. Namrata Bhabhular, motivated the women farmers to take up poultry farming as a subsidiary source of income. She urged them to take appropriate measures to prevent the diseases on poultry farms as prevention is always better than cure. She also explained the measures to be adopted to maintain good flock health and to enhance poultry production. Dr. M.R. Wade guided women farmers on different aspects of poultry farming. Farm demonstrations on chick brooding, broiler and layer farming, etc. were also conducted by the experts. Dr. Birade, Associate Dean and Chairman of the function congratulated the staff of the Dept. of Poultry Science and guided the farmers on this occasion. During the interactions some women participants have shown their willingness to take up poultry farming and expressed their satisfaction. Dr. Prajakta Kuralkar, Dr. Mohini Khodke, Dr. Madhuri Hedau, Dr. Manjusha Patil and the staff were present during the function. Dr. Mayura Gole along with PG students Dr. Asheer, Dr. Amit, Dr. Amol conducted the inaugural program as well as technical sessions. The program was ended with vote of thanks by Dr. K.K. Khose.
